The Equality Unit receives the STOPBULLYING 2026 Recognition for its commitment to coexistence and inclusion

The award, promoted by the Cádiz CF Foundation, acknowledges the work carried out by this university service in fostering safe and discrimination-free environments

The Equality Unit of the University of Cádiz has received the STOPBULLYING 2026 Recognition, an award promoted by the Cádiz CF Foundation that highlights initiatives committed to coexistence, respect and inclusion. The award ceremony took place last Wednesday at the headquarters of the Confederation of Business Owners of Cádiz, as part of the sixth edition of these recognitions, which honour individuals, institutions and organisations for their work in promoting a more equal and inclusive society.

The University of Cádiz was recognised through the work carried out by its Equality Unit, a service established in 2009 that has consolidated its role within the university community by promoting initiatives aimed at creating safe, accessible environments free from any form of discrimination.

The Director General of the Equality Unit of the University of Cádiz, Paqui Bernal, accepted the award on behalf of the service and highlighted that this distinction represents recognition of a shared effort and the work undertaken by all those who form part of the Unit. Bernal particularly emphasized the collective nature of an initiative that has been built over the years thanks to the continued commitment of the people involved in this university service.

Among the reasons cited by the organising committee for granting the award is the Unit’s work in identifying and raising awareness of inequalities, helping to highlight different realities and situations affecting various groups within the university community. This work has contributed to the development of actions and tools designed to promote greater equality of opportunity across the institution.

The committee also recognised the development and implementation of the protocol for the prevention of and response to sexual harassment and harassment based on sex or gender, a measure aimed at strengthening protection and ensuring safe environments for both work and study.

The award further acknowledges the cross-cutting nature of the Equality Unit’s activities, integrating the gender perspective into teaching, research and university management. This is complemented by ongoing collaboration with institutions and organisations across the province, helping to develop joint initiatives and extend the reach of the actions promoted by the University of Cádiz.
