Está situado en el casco antiguo de la ciudad, junto al Parque Genovés y la Playa de la Caleta, en un conjunto de calles estrechas, pequeñas plazas y lugares con encanto. La ciudad se comunica con el resto de los campus universitarios a través de autobuses de línea regular, de catamaranes, de servicio de cercanías de tren, así como del nuevo puente sobre la Bahía de Cádiz.

Por su privilegiada situación geográfica (es la ciudad más meridional de Europa) disfruta de un clima con una temperatura media anual de 18,1 ºC, lo que la hace ideal para pasear por sus parques y playas. Entre sus fiestas, el Carnaval es una de las más celebradas, una festividad de la que ya se tiene constancia escrita en el siglo XVII.

En Cádiz capital se desarrollan fundamentalmente los estudios socio-humanísticos y sanitarios. Cuenta con cinco centros universitarios (Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales, Facultad de Ciencias del Trabajo, Facultad de Enfermería y Fisioterapia, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras y Facultad de Medicina), en donde se imparten un total de 14 títulos de grado.

Además, en el Campus de Cádiz se encuentra el Rectorado, los distintos vicerrectorados de la UCA (en el Edificio Hospital Real), así como los servicios centrales de administración de la Universidad.
