UCA student Miguel Ángel Chamorro, runner-up in the Spanish University Weightlifting Championships 11 March 2026
UCA student Miguel Ángel Chamorro Dorantes has been named runner-up at the Spanish University Weightlifting Championships (CEU), held on 7 March in Seville. The competition was organised by Pablo de Olavide University in collaboration with the Spanish Weightlifting Federation and brought together nearly one hundred athletes from 40 universities across Spain.
The University of Cádiz was represented at the event by two students: Lola Jurado López and Miguel Ángel Chamorro Dorantes, who competed in their respective categories and demonstrated a high competitive level.
In the women’s -58 kg category, Lola Jurado delivered a strong performance in her first participation in a CEU. She successfully lifted 50 kg in the snatch and 55 kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a total of 105 kg, which earned her a commendable seventh-place finish.
Meanwhile, Miguel Ángel Chamorro competed in the men’s -79 kg category, where he secured the silver medal after an excellent performance. The UCA student lifted 113 kg in the snatch and 147 kg in the clean and jerk, reaching a total of 260 kg and claiming the runner-up position.
This result marks Chamorro’s third medal at the Spanish University Weightlifting Championships, having previously won gold in the two previous editions, thus consolidating his position as one of the most outstanding university athletes in this discipline.
The University of Cádiz delegation was accompanied by coach Jorge Victorián (Doc2001), with David Romero Marín, technician from the UCA Sports Area, acting as head of delegation.
