The IGNITION project (Improving GreeN Innovation for the blue revoluTION: new tools and opportunities for a more sustainable animal farming) is coordinated by Dr. Benjamin Costas of the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR, Porto Portugal) of the University of Porto. The European Union, within the framework programme Horizon Europe, has granted it a total budget of 5,077,442.50 euros for a duration of 4 years.
In Spain, the research group of Dr. Juan Antonio Martos-Sitcha and Dr. Juan Miguel Mancera, from the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Environmental Marine Sciences of the University of Cadiz (UCA) participates in IGNITION with the fundamental role of studying fish welfare. The aim of this project is to improve animal welfare and health in aquaculture and, more specifically, to establish new tools and strategies against the adverse impacts of climate change on various species of aquatic animals.
