UCA Holds the 2nd Fair Play Week with Activities Across Its Four University Campuses

The Sports Area is promoting a special programme from 13 to 19 May to reinforce the values of sport in conjunction with World Fair Play Day

The Vice-Rectorate for Students at the University of Cádiz, through its Sports Area, will organise the 2nd UCA Fair Play Week from 13 to 19 May, an initiative that will bring a wide-ranging programme of activities linked to the promotion of sporting values to the university’s four campuses.

The celebration coincides with World Fair Play Day, established by the United Nations in 2025 and commemorated every 19 May. Through this initiative, the University of Cádiz strengthens nearly two decades of continuous work in favour of a sporting model based on respect, coexistence, equality and education in values.

The initiative has its roots in the programme At UCA, Play Fair. Sport edUCA, officially launched in 2008 by the Sports Area of the Vice-Rectorate for Students. Since then, the campaign has turned the University of Cádiz into a national and international benchmark in promoting fair play within the university environment.

Among the main achievements is a 70% reduction in sanction cards in UCA’s internal futsal and seven-a-side football competitions, as well as the implementation of scoring criteria linked to fair play that were later adopted by other universities and sports competitions.

Over the years, the campaign has also received numerous awards and recognitions. These include the National Sports Award Joaquín Blume Trophy, the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, the World Fair Play Award granted by the International Fair Play Committee, and several Andalusian Sports Awards. The most recent distinction was the 2025 Andalusian Sports Award for the Best Initiative in the Prevention and Fight Against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, Intolerance and Sexist Attitudes or Behaviours in Sport, received last March.

In addition to the activities planned for this second edition, the campaign continues to pursue several objectives, including further reducing unsporting behaviour in internal competitions, continuing to develop competition models based on fair play criteria, expanding complementary activities and strengthening institutional and sporting support for the project.

One of the fundamental pillars of this initiative is the Sport edUCA Decalogue. At UCA, Play Fair, a set of principles that promotes values such as respect for teammates, opponents and referees, coexistence, teamwork, and acceptance of both success and failure as part of sporting learning.

During the 2nd Fair Play Week, participatory activities and awareness-raising actions will take place on the campuses of Cádiz, Puerto Real, Jerez and Bahía de Algeciras. The programme is aimed at members of the university community who hold the 2025–2026 Sports Card, which is free for the entire university community.

All information about obtaining the Sports Card is available on the UCA Sports Area website.

The full programme of activities, as well as registrations and updates, can be found on the 2nd UCA Fair Play Week website.
