UCA advances in the construction of the new Library of the Bay of Algeciras Campus

The work has a cost of 2.7 million euros. The building, with 3 floors plus basement, will have 2,600m2, 21,000 volumes of bibliographic collection, 350 reading posts, 10 work rooms or 6 classrooms for teaching

The rector of the University of Cádiz, Eduardo González Mazo, in the company of the Mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, the acting deputy of the Government of the Board in the Campo de Gibraltar, Ángel Gavino, the coordinator of the General State Administration in the region, José Medina, the vice-rector of Social Responsibility, Cultural Extension and Services, Teresa García Valderrama, the delegate of the Rector for the Bay of Algeciras Campus, Inmaculada Santiago, the director of the Library, Ricardo Chamorro, the directors of the centers of UCA in the Campus and of members of the students, faculty and staff of Administration and Services, have visited the works of the new library of the Campus that, located next to the Polytechnic School of Algeciras in lands of the own university institution, will be, finished its construction, a functional, modern, sustainable and accessible infrastructure

Con un presupuesto de 2.716.098,33 euros, el edificio constará de 3 plantas más sótano y de una superficie construida superior a los 2.600m2, en donde, entre otros equipamientos y espacios, destacan sus 21.000 volúmenes de fondo bibliográfico, 350 puestos de lectura, 10 salas de trabajo en grupo, una sala de aprendizaje y 6 aulas para docencia.

With a budget of 2,716,098.33 euros, the building will consist of 3 floors plus basement and a built area of ​​more than 2,600m2, where, among other equipment and spaces, its 21,000 volumes of bibliographic collection stand out, 350 reading posts, 10 work rooms for groups, a learning room and 6 classrooms for teaching.

In parallel, the University of Cádiz has already begun the process of bidding for the equipment of the library and the planned classrooms at an approximate cost of 300,000 euros, in order to optimize the deadlines and dispose of all the furniture once the works are finished.

The construction of this demanded building has been made on the basis of the technical prescriptions and the rigorous report of needs elaborated from UCA. On the ground floor and 1st and 2nd floors will be located information and user services, reading and study rooms, 10 work rooms for groups, a learning and videoconference space, book deposits and spaces for library staff. For its part, the third and last floor, with direct and independent access from the Higher Polytechnic School of Algeciras, will be composed of a total of 6 classrooms: a classroom with 90 seats, another with 80, a third with 55, a drawing classroom with 48 and two classrooms of 25 seats for postgraduate and doctorate, mainly.
