The University of Cádiz finishes fourth in the Spanish University Sailing Championship held in El Puerto de Santa María

Pompeu Fabra University was crowned champion, followed by the University of A Coruña and the University of Seville.

The University of Cádiz has secured fourth place in the 2026 Spanish University Sailing Championship, held from 14 to 17 April at the Specialized Sailing High-Performance Centre in El Puerto de Santa María. The event brought together some of the leading universities from across Spain.

The final day of competition was marked by strong wind gusts, creating some uncertainty about the development of the races. However, all scheduled races were ultimately completed as planned, ensuring the smooth conclusion of the championship.

One of the standout features of this edition was the record level of participation. A total of 13 universities — 12 public and one private — took part, surpassing previous participation figures. In total, 52 athletes competed, with an equal representation of 26 women and 26 men, alongside 14 officials.

In the final standings, Pompeu Fabra University claimed first place, followed by the University of A Coruña in second and the University of Seville in third. The University of Cádiz finished fourth, delivering a strong performance in a highly competitive event.

The awards ceremony was attended by Nuria Campos, Vice-Rector for Students at the University of Cádiz; Julio Conde, Director of the Nautical Campus Secretariat; José Ignacio González Nieto, Sports Councillor of El Puerto de Santa María City Council; Nicolás Mariño, Director of the Andalusian Sailing Federation; Kiko Jorreto, delegate of the Spanish University Sports Committee for sailing; Carlos Navarro, technical advisor from the Spanish Sports Council; and Rafael Rivas, Technical Director of the Sports Area.

The Spanish University Championships hosted by the University of Cádiz are part of a broader calendar of competitions. Following the surf and parasurf events held in El Palmar in March, the sailing competition took place in April in El Puerto de Santa María, while beach volleyball is scheduled for May at La Victoria beach in Cádiz.
