The University of Cádiz commemorates the conferral of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on José Manuel Caballero Bonald at the Jerez Campus 27 April 2026
The University of Cádiz has commemorated the conferral of the honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) awarded to José Manuel Caballero Bonald in a ceremony held at the Jerez Campus, as part of the university’s cultural programme dedicated to the centenary of the writer’s birth.
The event paid tribute to the Jerez-born author, one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary Spanish literature and a recipient of numerous distinctions, including the Cervantes Prize. The University of Cádiz itself awarded him the honorary doctorate in recognition of his literary and intellectual career.
The commemoration forms part of the 2026 University Book Week programme, which this year is dedicated to Caballero Bonald, whose work and legacy are being highlighted through a wide range of academic and cultural activities across the university’s campuses.
Through this initiative, the University of Cádiz reinforces its commitment to promoting literary heritage and celebrating one of the most influential voices in Spanish literature of the 20th and 21st centuries.
