The UCA Senate approves the awarding of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to Gunter Pauli

The Senate of the University of Cadiz, meeting in extraordinary session, has approved today, at the request of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies and with the favourable report of the Governing Council of the UCA (held on 30 March), the awarding of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to the economist and populariser Gunter Pauli. The proposal, promoted last December by the Board of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, was based on the merits of the internationally known as the “father of Blue Economy”. With a degree in Economics from the current University of Antwerp and a postgraduate MBA from INSEAD, Gunter Pauli has developed a prolific professional career in which “his entrepreneurial vocation and his enormous commitment to culture, politics, society and the environment” stand out.

In this way and as stated in the reasoned report issued by the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the UCA, “both in his numerous works and projects, as well as in his participation as an advisor and member of boards of directors of companies, governments and international non-governmental organisations and in the delivery of countless lectures and classes, Gunter Pauli has highlighted the pressing need to promote and address a paradigm shift in the field of business and the market model that makes it possible to develop and consolidate a more responsible society from the social, environmental and economic perspectives.
