The UCA and the European Space Agency are holding the 13th International Coastal Altimetry Workshop in Cadiz

The University of Cadiz, from the Department of Applied Physics, and the European Space Agency are co-organising the 13th International Coastal Altimetry Workshop at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts in Cadiz from 6 to 10 February. 120 experts from universities and scientific centres from 28 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania will share their training and experience in coastal altimetry. This congress brings together in Cadiz the scientific community, made up of researchers, engineers and managers, who work for and with the development of satellite altimetry applications in coastal areas. The vice-rector of Science and Technology Policy of the UCA, Mª Jesús Mosquera, together with the professors of the Organising Committee, Jesús Gómez (UCA) and Jérôme Benveniste (ESA-ESRIN), welcomed them today in the aula Magna of the academic centre.

Coastal zones have become one of the main sources of interest for present and future altimetry missions, also thanks to the great success of missions such as CryoSat-2, Sentinel-3A/B, Sentinel-6 and SARAL. The aim of this meeting is to encourage debate on the current state of applications and scientific advances in coastal altimetry, covering data processing, the development of new applications and the search for new radar technologies. New studies carried out with data from the aforementioned missions, as well as from the recently launched SWOT mission, will be presented.
