The rector of the UCA shows researchers the potential of the UCA-SEA Innovation Center in Algeciras

In the company of the mayor, they have visited the facilities of a building that, practically built and with part of the scientific infrastructure installed, will be the R+D+i center of the region. It has an investment between works and equipment of eight million euros

The rector of the University of Cadiz, Francisco Piniella, accompanied by the mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, and the vice rector of the Bay of Algeciras Campus, Mª del Mar Cerbán, has visited, together with UCA researchers who will develop their scientific activity in the building, the facilities of the new UCA-SEA Innovation Center that will be the new center of the region, with the works almost completed and much of the scientific equipment already installed, will become the epicenter of the transfer and innovation of the region after an investment of over 8 million euros between 4.6 million euros of the works (European funds managed by the Board) and more than three of its powerful scientific equipment (captured by the UCA in various competitive calls).

The UCA-SEA Innovation Center, built by the University of Cadiz on land of the Port of Algeciras in Llano Amarillo, is the first major action that manages to materialize within the Maritime Lake project thanks to the collaboration of the various institutions involved (UCA, City Council, Board and APBA). As a whole, it is a bet for the improvement of the port-city strategy that goes beyond its urban dimension and seeks to become a core for economic dynamism, innovation and knowledge transfer in the most powerful economic, business and industrial sectors, especially those linked to logistics, maritime transport, sustainability and everything related to the Blue Economy.
