José Antonio López Takes Office as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication 19 January 2026
Re-elected following the electoral process held last December, López has emphasised the commitment to continue addressing the Faculty’s most immediate challenges
The Manuel Asenjo Assembly Hall, located on the Jerez Campus, hosted the inauguration ceremony this Friday morning at which José Antonio López formally took office as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication at the University of Cádiz. This institutional event officially confirms López in the post he has held for the past four years, following his re-election as dean last December after the conclusion of the Faculty’s electoral process.
The ceremony was attended by numerous members of the Faculty’s university community, as well as by the Rector of the University of Cádiz, Casimiro Mantell, and the UCA Secretary General, Manuel Rozados, who accompanied the dean at this formal event marking the beginning of a new term at the head of the Faculty.
During his address, José Antonio López expressed his sincere gratitude for the support received from the academic community of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, highlighting the confidence placed in his project for the coming years. In this regard, he reaffirmed his commitment to continue working to strengthen academic excellence across the degree programmes offered by the centre.
The dean also underlined that the Faculty faces the future with enthusiasm and significant challenges ahead. Among these, he highlighted the planned introduction, in the 2028/2029 academic year, of the new Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual and Digital Communication. This programme is expected to broaden and diversify the Faculty’s academic offering and to respond to emerging educational demands linked to the field of communication.
For his part, the Rector of the University of Cádiz congratulated José Antonio López on his re-election and thanked him for the work carried out during his previous term of office. Mantell emphasised the demands of a position that, as he noted, requires a high level of management capacity, dialogue and negotiation, particularly in a university context shaped by regulatory changes and new academic and institutional challenges.
In his speech, the Rector also reviewed some of the key issues that the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication will need to address in the coming years, including the process of revising the statutes governing the University of Cádiz. According to Mantell, this scenario will require the active involvement of Faculty management teams and close collaboration with the different sectors of the university community.
