Students from Villanova University and the University of Houston will take part in programmes organised by the Centre for Modern Languages
The University of Cádiz’s Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation has welcomed 50 students from the United States this week, arriving from Villanova University and the University of Houston to participate in the international programmes organised by the University’s Centre for Modern Languages (CSLM) over the coming month.
The welcome session took place in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies and was led by Leonor Acosta, Director General for Language Policy and Director of the CSLM. She was accompanied by the Centre’s Coordinator, María Fernández, as well as the programme coordinators in the United States, Eli Cohen and Elizabeth Goodin-Mayeda. Yaye Baena, Director of MundoLengua, also attended the event. MundoLengua collaborates in the management and delivery of the extracurricular programme for students from Houston.
This year marks important milestones for both programmes. The partnership with the University of Houston celebrates its 15th anniversary, while the Villanova programme reaches 37 years of collaboration, reaffirming its status as the longest-running international programme at the University of Cádiz.
During their stay, students will take courses in Spanish language, culture and society for international learners, alongside subjects designed to enhance their Spanish communication skills and deepen their understanding of Spain’s historical, cultural and social context. The academic programme is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular activities, including cultural excursions, cooking workshops, language exchange sessions and other immersive experiences aimed at promoting language acquisition and providing insight into Andalusian culture and society.
With the arrival of these students, more than one hundred international participants are currently enrolled in CSLM programmes in Cádiz. This figure is expected to double over the coming weeks as additional groups join the University’s international offerings.
These figures further strengthen the University of Cádiz’s position as a leading international destination for learning Spanish as a foreign language, as well as for cultural and academic immersion experiences for students from universities around the world.
