Atún Rojo

OBJETIVOS:

La fascinación que el atún rojo, Thunnus thynnus, ha despertado en el hombre
durante siglos está justificada por poseer una serie de características
biológicas sorprendentes y únicas: el gran tamaño, que puede superar los tres
metros de longitud y los 700 kg de peso, la enorme velocidad y capacidad de
desplazamiento, y la posibilidad de regular la temperatura interna. El atún rojo
es, además, un recurso natural de enorme interés económico que, hasta finales del
siglo XX, ha sido explotado de forma sostenible durante milenios. El presente curso
pretende proporcionar conocimientos sobre diversos aspectos biológicos del atún
rojo, así como la importancia histórica y económica que esta especie ha tenido
entre los pobladores mediterráneos.
Entre los objetivos de este curso se contemplan:
- Dar a conocer diversos aspectos de la biología del atún rojo.
- Presentar los diferentes artes de pesca con los que esta especie es capturada en
aguas del área del estrecho de Gibraltar.
- Mostrar la importancia histórica y económica de este recurso.
