The rally team of the Algeciras Higher Polytechnic School (HPS), composed of students Francisco Morales and Francisco Benítez, has won the Panda Raid 2017 in the category 4x2 of students. They obtained the 21st position in the 9th edition of this competition, together with 162 participants in a course that took place in Morocco.
This competition lasts seven days along the desert, covering the distance from Madrid to Marrakech. The particularity of the race is that it can only be performed in a Fiat Panda from the 80s and 90s, with slight modifications established by the organization of the event and without GPS equipment, only road book, map and compass.
Another of the highlights of the competition is its solidarity, as the participants collaborate financially in the construction and development of a children's bioclimatic school in Ait Ahmed, located in the province of Agadir (Morocco). The members of the HPS Raid team have carried out the preparation of the vehicle by themselves at the premises of the Algeciras Higher Polytechnic School, where they tried to apply and expand the knowledge acquired in the classroom. This year they have developed improvements that are incorporated into the car like the reading of sensors by means of an Arduino type microcontroller.
In this edition, they were sponsored by the University of Cádiz and the ACERINOX-UCA cathedra, among others.
